Hotel accommodation charges vary on the type of package chosen. Prices include dinner and breakfast.
A significant part of the expense of climbing Kilimanjaro is National Park fees. Park fees for citizens of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda and for climbers of 16 years and less and for treks longer than 7 days are available upon inquiry.
It is customary to give a tip to guides and porters if pleased with the service they have given, although we stress that tipping is always discretionary. Climbers are advised to budget around $100 for this purpose - the larger the climbing party, the less each climber generally needs to contribute for tips. More guidance is given about mountain tipping in pre-climb briefings.
How to pay
Tanzania still has, in general, a cash-based economy. Visitors will find that credit cards are not yet widely accepted. Many operators who do accept credit cards will charge a premium for doing so - sometimes as much as 10%. Cash advances on a credit card, even when possible, will attract both a premium and an unfavourable rate of exchange. Visitors should therefore bring sufficient cash or travellers cheques to pay for their holiday. National park fees cannot be paid with a credit card.
Prices in Tanzania are generally quoted in American dollars.
