Unforgettable Stays, On and Off the Mountain
Amazing and so helpful
I was part of a group of 11 climbing Kili and the trek was organised by the hotel. From the moment we arrived (after midnight and were given a 4 course dinner!) , while we were up the mountain and after we came down again we were so well looked after. All the staff are friendly, kind, caring and helpful, the food is outstanding (and the food that was cooked for us on Kili was incredible) and Desmond and team were great at answering all our questions beforehand and during our stay. They clearly care for and look after the teams of porters and guides that go up the mountain and this is so important. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend Marangu Hotel. Thank you to you all.

Excellent Kilimanjaro Climbing Outfit and Hotel
My family and I not only stayed at the Marangu Hotel, but we also had them arrange our Kilimanjaro climb. They were simply outstanding. The climb could not have been more thoughtfully executed and their staff was excellent. Every aspect of our adventure was taken care of and from the very beginning we knew that they were highly capable. The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable, but most importantly their guides and climbing equipment they provided were first rate. We all made it to the top of the mountain in large part due to the Marangu Hotel being terrific. I'd recommend them to anyone who wishes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Andy

Great place to stay and do your Kilimanjaro climb
Hotel is a cozy, clean, spacious cottage type accommodation.
WiFi is intermittent but who cares, you're in Africa. Food was great and generous.
The main reason for staying here was the Kilimanjaro climb. Marangu was recommended by a friend. It's not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. If I was to take away the one most important factor was that they were very safe and professional. There was 6 climbers in my group and 4 guides, pretty good odds in my book!
Nothing was left to chance; the helpful emails prior to leaving home which aided my planning and packing, the briefing before we departed the Hotel, the porters how they always arrived before us and had the camp set up and the food started, the meals always hot and nutritious and generous, the guides especially Elion who led the climb so supportive and knowledgeable, the summit itself where we weren't rushed and when some of us suffered they knew just how to achieve a 100% success rate, and finally the fact that 20 ish support staff climbed for 6 days so that 6 of us could reach the top. A small but effective organisation, much better than these larger companies in my opinion. Apart from a very small deposit at the time of booking I paid everything on the last morning by credit card making that part very easy.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Marangu Hotel for your Kilimanjaro climb.

5 day Kilimanjaro trip
What a gem! The hotel is beautiful, they think of everything, are flexible and accommodating. Our trek to the summit went so well! The guides work with you and go your pace, they are infinitely patient. I felt very looked after during the entire hike. I wouldn’t have made it to the top without them. The owners know the mountain and offer valuable advise before your climb, listen to them!! Listening to other hikers at the different camps, our guides and porters were top notch!

Amazing hotel, incredible staff
Desmond and the team are amazing. They were so accommodating during our stay. We booked as a big group for our charity trek up Kilimanjaro. The crew who took us up the mountain were brilliant and very supportive. The hotel and crew were very helpful to our dietary needs as well, myself being vegan. I'd 100% recommend Marangu Hotel and hope to return soon. Desmond and his team also helped us book additional safaris and organised a trek to a local waterfall.

Amazing hospitality + peaceful gardens in Marangu
I stayed three nights recently at the Marangu Hotel. The hotel is so pretty -- it's a compound of little buildings set in the most amazing gardens, overflowing with beautiful flowers and teeming with beautiful and interesting birds. Everyone who works at this hotel is so nice -- I felt really cared for by the team there.
One particularly amazing thing -- I told them when I arrived that I was gluten free, and they actually baked me special gluten free bread to eat with all my meals there. I was really blown away by that -- a totally unprecedented hospitality experience! :)
This is a great place to come if you need somewhere to rest and recharge for a few days!
Highly recommend :)

Best place in the wider region
Whether you have one night only in the Kilimanjaro area, or are planning an extensive climbing holiday, this is the place to stay. Apart from kind hosts and staff, immaculate lawns and mature gardens, a bar to feel at home in and decent-sized tea pots, teeming birdlife and spectacular views of the summits etc.etc., this hotel has what none of the others for many miles around has: simplicity and none of the stuff to spoil the beauty of a place, such as omnipresent wifi, flat screen TVs, minibars or roomservice phones, wasteful plastics in the bathroom, service-trained phoney front desk staff and slimey music in the corridors, and so on.
In other words, the place is worth its price, not just for what it has, but for what it has not.
One of the last places of its kind in East Africa - highly recommended!
(PS: don't be fooled by the official 'stars' this hotel might be awarded or not, on account of its absent amenities - its 5 star through and through.)

The oldest and best hotel near Kilimanjaro
Just spent last night at Marangu Hotel. It was the first place we visited as a family when we first came to Tanzania in January 1997 and we loved it so much we went back 2 weeks later...despite the 7 hour drive from Dar es Salaam! It is the most beautiful old hotel in the most amazing setting, with views of Kilimanjaro to die for. It is the best and oldest outfit to climb Kilimanjaro with. We got to stay in the old honeymoon suite in the original old German boma... a huge room with a stunning private garden. We will be going back soon!
